Ill Considered (UK)

Combining riotous free improvisation and deep groove, UK-based outfit Ill Considered have joined forces with New Soil to release their expansive catalogue of eight vinyl-only albums digitally for the first time as part of a “Digital Tour” in 2020, ahead of a new album and their live performance at London Jazz Festival.

Comprised of bassist Liran Donin (Led Bib), saxophonist Idris Rahman (Wildflower, Soothsayers) and producer/mixer/drummer Emre Ramazanoglu (David Holmes, Leo Abrahams, Noel Gallagher, Steam Down, Theon Cross, Wildflower, Etienne Daho) Ill Considered are not wasting any time.

Ferociously energetic and relentless productive, the outfit recorded and released nine albums in two years between 2017 and 2019, tearing through an improvised yet fully-formed repertoire in single-take sessions that display a unique versatility and sense of invention.

As saxophonist Idris Rahman explains: “We are trying in real time to shape the music with repetitive hooks, dynamic builds, moments where we diverge into chaos and moments where we hit a climax as if we’d rehearsed it. We’re always looking for those points and listening to each other to feel where we’re going to go next.”

Fusing the dynamism of the UK jazz scene with an improvised punk energy, the band’s sound is not easily pigeonholed. Each album features original artwork by illustrator Vincent De Boer, channeling a DIY ethos that has propelled the outfit to under-the-radar cult status. Each of their vinyl-only releases has sold out at source.

“The Ill Considered sound is wide and varied, and potentially limitless in sonic scope,” Rahman explains. “We’re looking to express our emotions to the fullest possible extent and to make the resulting music coherent and cathartic for any listener that wishes to join us.”
